Five ways to protect the heritage of Sri Lanka.
Globally renowned and respected Sri Lankan heritage is a gift that Sri Lanka has benefited from for a long time. The growing tourism industry in Sri Lanka will attest to it. Unfortunately, the majority of the properties which make up the Sri Lankan heritage are deteriorating. In 2017 UNESCO has warned that Two of the sites, Galle Fort and the Dambulla Royal Cave Temples, which were listed by UNESCO may require to be eliminated from the list because of their deteriorating conditions. Other than the two above, six heritage sites are on the UNESCO lists. Unfortunately, they are undergoing similar treatment that could eventually eliminate the heritage sites, not just from the UNESCO lists but from our country itself.
Below are 5 ways to protect the heritage of Sri Lanka.
Educating the younger generations on the significance of heritage
Equipping Sri Lankans with methods to conserve Sri Lankan heritage
Encouraging tourists to practice a few of the best practices at the heritage sites
Raising money and donating the institutions and charities researching to protect Sri Lankan heritage and conservation of biodiversity at the natural sites
Requesting the government to instigate policies that punish the ones damaging Sri Lankan heritage sites as well as interpreting conservation of biodiversity
Let us strive towards a future where Sri Lankan heritage is respected and loved by everyone in the world by conserving the Sri Lankan heritage sites and supporting the achievements of conservation of biodiversity in all the natural heritage sites on the island.
