Spilling the tea on tea: Curious facts about tea
In an era where consumers are fighting for organic consumption every day, I would be disappointed to find that we did not have organic tea out there in the market, especially organic Ceylon tea. Ceylon (Sri Lanka) is the first that pops in mind when we discuss tea and that is because Ceylon tea is the best in the world. Dilmah today offers an amazing range of premium organic tea which is produced in harmony with nature free moving away from synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.
Tea is an amazing conversation builder (especially in a local context). Whilst in the western world most oftentimes people discuss over a coffee in this part of the world (especially in Sri Lanka) we make conversation over a cup of tea. Morning tea time & evening tea time conversations are still a strong family tradition in my house (despite our busy schedules).
Similarly, there are so many fun facts about tea which most of you out there are not aware of. Thus, here are some of my favorite, jaw dropping, did you know tea facts.
01. There are around 3,000 different types of tea out there in the world (like wine flavours of tea depends on where they are grown)
02. Mint tea isn’t actually a tea but an infusion.
03. Tea has more caffeine than coffee but its impact is not as simple as coffee (Our usage of coffee per cup is more than the usage of tea per cup)
04. The practice of putting milk in first is to do with social class (apparently was not about the taste) — it has everything to do with the quality of cups served.
For example: low quality chinaware cracks when hot tea is directly poured into the cup instead more milk less hot tea was the solution (interesting isn’t it?)
05. What is now called a tea caddy was a locked chest used to keep Tea safe as it was so valuable in the 18th century
06. Tea Bags were invented in the early 1900s (an era when convenience was becoming a necessity)
Mind blowing isn’t it? There are so many more fun tea facts that will tease your brain. When you have some time, pour a cup of tea and do some research on tea fun facts. You will be surprised with what you learn.
